The most common way to play a professional wrestling video game has been on the home consoles such as the PlayStation, Xbox, GameCube, and whatever other console was popular at a certain point. This is where titles, like the SmackDown series, Day of Reckoning, and many more were created.

Every Wrestling Video Game On The Nintendo 64, Ranked
The Nintendo 64 offered some legendary wrestling titles to go along with some totally forgettable ones!

This has seen the main series of WWE games shift to releases on the PC and exclusive titles that deserve some recognition. So let's wander into the world of PC gaming and check out what it has to offer wrestling fans.
Focusing purely on games that are still available for release, nothing that has been delisted or isn't widely accessible any longer.
9 RetroMania Wrestling's A Decent Throwback To Arcades
Metacritic Score (66/100)
Developer | Publisher | Release Date |

Retrosoft Studios | Retrosoft Studios | February 25th, 2021 |
While games like AEW Fight Forever tried to emulate the feeling of WWF No Mercy or WWE 2K Battlegrounds tried to be like WWE All-Stars, RetroMania Wrestling tries to reach fans of the old school WWF arcade games, WrestleFest and Superstars.
The graphics and feeling of the game do a great job at reaching that audience, while also adding new content such as a decent-length story mode and tournament mode.
8 AEW Fight Forever Is A Middling Affair
Metacritic Score (68/100)
Developer | Publisher | Release Date |

Yuke's | THQ Nordic | June 29th, 2023 |
The hype behind AEW's first major video game was beyond compare. The company was riding high at this point with the recent signings of Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Adam Cole, while also putting on some of the best shows in wrestling at the time. On top of things, the game was confirmed to be created by former SmackDown vs. Raw veteran, Yuke's.
The game was to be said to mirror the feeling of the Nintendo 64 classic WWF No Mercy, but upon release would meet some average scores. Criticism was pointed toward the simplicity, the lacking modes, even more lacking create-a-wrestler, and the graphics.
7 WrestleQuest Takes A New Approach To Wrestling Games

Mega Cat Studios | Skybound Games | August 21st, 2023 |
WrestleQuest was a surprise in 2023 as combining such different genres as professional wrestling and RPGdidn't seem like it should work at first. Mega Cat Studios did an amazing job on it though, and made a great story that takes a child-like approach mixed with old-school wrestling.

Venturing through the game's world will see players interact with the likes of Jake Roberts, Sgt. Slaughter, The Road Warriors, and more from the golden era of wrestling. The biggest complaint that has been thrown around with this game though was the length, as most players agreed it could have been slimmed down just a bit.
6 Journey Of Wrestling Makes Management Easy

Journey of Wrestling has been around for a few years now but didn't see a release on Steam until 2024, when the game really took off. Before that, players could find JOW on its website as a free-to-play browser game.
If you are new to the genre of management simulators, this would be the perfect first step compared to something like the Total Extreme Wrestling series, as JOW takes a more simple and easy-to-pick-up approach to the genre.
5 WWE 2K As A Whole For The Last Few Years
Receives Average To Good Review Scores
Developer | Publisher | Release Date |
---|---|---|
Visual Concepts | 2K | N/A |
At the time of writing this, the WWE 2K series only has three titles available on Steam, those being WWE 2K23, 2K24, and 2K Battlegrounds. Both 2K23 and 2K24 received pretty solid review scores and have been praised as steps forward in the right direction after the horrible misfire that was 2K20. Battlegrounds, on the other hand, was developed by Saber Interactive and has been criticized as repetitive, too simplified, and ugly.
The 2K series is pretty solid on PC and might be the best way to play these games if you are looking to mod in new wrestlers, arenas, and whatever else the modding scene allows.
4 Wrestling Revolution 2D & 3D Are Comedic Takes On The Genre

If you are someone who has watched any professional wrestling video game content on YouTube in the last decade, it is most likely you have seen or heard of the MDickie series of wrestling games. Wrestling Revolution 2D was the first and quickly became popular online due to the hilarious and insane things the game would produce.
A 3D version of the game came out a couple of years later and featured more content and even more randomness than the first game. Both remain massive hits and are widely beloved by fans of the genre, but would be overshadowed a bit by a sequel in 2021.
3 Total Extreme Warfare Is An Advanced Management Sim
Is Typically Well Regarded Online
Developer | Publisher | Release Date |
---|---|---|
Adam Ryland | Grey Dog Software | N/A |
Similar to Journey of Wrestling in the sense that both games are Wrestling Management sims, Total Extreme Warfare takes a far more realistic and in-depth view of the genre. The game is decades old and started life by British programmer, Adam Ryland, back in 1995.

Online players might be familiar with either Extreme Warfare Revenge or Total Extreme Warfare 2020, which seem to be the most popular entries in the series, with Total Extreme Warfare 9 being the latest installment released in August 2024. There isn't much to say as they are just simulators, but if that genre is up your alley, give these games a try.
2 Wrestling Empire Vastly Improved The Series
Overwhelmingly Positive Steam Score Based On 2143 Reviews
Developer | Publisher | Release Date |

MDickie | MDickie | January 11th, 2021 |
MDickie took everything that fans loved about the Wrestling Revolution series and vastly improved it for the release of Wrestling Empire in 2021. The game greatly improved the size of the roster and even included a booking mode where players control their own promotion and roster.
The biggest change from the Wrestling Revolution series was an improvement in the engine, making Wrestling Empire run faster and smoother compared to its predecessors. This game took off so well that it saw releases on iOS, Android, and even the Nintendo Switch (a first for the series).
1 Fire Pro Wrestling World Is One Of The Best Wrestling Games Of All Time

Spike Chunsoft | Spike Chunsoft | December 18th, 2017 |
The Fire Pro Wrestling series has been around since 1989 and is widely acclaimed for its grappling system and extensive yet simple creation suite. The most recent release was Fire Pro Wrestling World, which has become the most acclaimed entry in the series and even worked out a deal with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and World Wonder Ring Stardom to license their talent for the game.
The creation suite can not be underestimated, as users have created everything from real-life wrestlers and their movesets to fictional characters and absolutely ridiculous moves that would fit in WWE All-Stars.
